January 5, 2010
Dear Elementary Parents,
Welcome back! I sincerely hope that you and your family had a wonderful Christmas break. What a joy it was this morning to have an opportunity to greet our students as they arrived on campus. Their excitement and energy is contagious, and I know the entire staff is eager to start the second semester. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to educate and care for your child. It is going to be a great 2010 at WCS, and we are glad that you will be a part of it.
Report cards will be handed out this Friday and will also be available online for you to view. We appreciate your partnership with our teachers in the education process. Please communicate with your teacher any questions or concerns you may have when receiving your childs report card. It is a new quarter and it is important that our students get off to a strong start academically. Our goal is to hit the ground running and get our students back into the routine of being at school.
As I mentioned before break, our Wednesday early release options have changed for this quarter. The sloppy weather means that we will be unable to accommodate IM sports. For this week, we will only be offering the HW help class, the cooking class for those already signed up, and our band program for the fifth grade. Other options that we would like to implement this quarter include: a board game tournament for 3rd through 5th grade, an arts and crafts class, and reading for our kindergarteners and 1st graders. These programs, however, will rely on some parent or grandparent supervision. We would ask that you consider volunteering during Wednesdays to help us make these programs available.
A few reminders before closing:
1) The Booster Club meets this Wednesday in the Cardinal Cove (A-5 on Matmor Campus) at 6:30 p.m.

8) Family Bowling Night: Plan on joining us Sunday, January 31 at 6:30 pm for a night of family fun! The cost is $10.00 per person and includes two games, plus shoe rental, at Woodhaven Lanes. Please RSVP to Michele Fitzer at 666-6615 x 103 or mfitzer@woodlandchristian.org by January 22.
During our elementary staff meeting this morning, I asked our teachers to share one thing that God had put on their heart over the break. One of our teachers noted that she had some time to reflect on how great it was that she could talk about Christ and Christmas with her students. She had been prevented last year from wishing her students a Merry Christmas unless they said it to her first. What a blessing it is, indeed, to be a part of a school that purposefully places Jesus Christ at the heart of what we do. WCS should be a light in our community. I hope that you have a wonderful week and remember to shine brightly.
Thank You,
Justin Smith
