Dear Elementary Parents,

He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25Where is your faith? he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him." Luke 8:24-25

What a comfort it is in weather like this to know that our Lord and Savior can control the winds and the water.

As if it was not hard enough to head back to work and school after the three-day weekend, we were welcomed by this wonderful weather today. I am very proud of each of our students for getting out of bed and braving the elements to get to school. Although, the puddles and rain seem to have the opposite effect on our young people than they do on our adults. Please make sure to drive particularly carefully while on campus this week and I hope that you find comfort in knowing that Christ has the power to calm all storms.

One of the areas that we hoped to improve on this year was the quantity and quality of social events for our school families. A unique characteristic of WCS is the ability for us to get to know one another very well and spend time fellowshipping together and having fun. This Saturday, January 23rd, we will be hosting our first ever Father-Daughter Dance. Hopefully, you have already received the flyers that have gone home about the event, but I wanted to take one last opportunity to encourage you to attend. The event is being held at the WCS gym on the Yolo County Fairgrounds and should be a lot of fun. Yours truly will be the DJ, (thank you Mrs. Geer) and we will have a great mixture of goofy dance songs, special slow songs, and fun games. Mrs. Sorbello will be taking pictures throughout the evening so that you can capture and save your memories for years to come. The dance will run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased in any school office for $25.00 per couple.

Another area that we sought to really improve upon this year was communication. Administration, faculty and leadership all felt that we owe it to families to communicate clearly and accurately at all times. We have tried to improve overall communication in several ways. Our Parent Information Nights have been one avenue to accomplish this goal. We have tried to provide more information in clear presentations with agendas that address your concerns and questions. We truly want to get you the information that will impact your experience at WCS in a timely manner. To that end, we are moving our next scheduled Parent Information Night back from January 26th to February 4th. The School Board and Administration have been working diligently to finalize registration, budget, and tuition information for the upcoming year. We want to make sure to get you all the information you need as soon as possible. The registration fees, tuition schedules, and budget for the 2010-2011 school year will be voted on February 1st. A School Board member will be present at the Information Night, along with administration, to present the information and answer any questions.

A few reminders before closing:

1) Cookie Dough Fundraiser kicks off this Friday! Packets will be sent home this week on Friday. The sales end February 12th.
2) This Thursday, January 21st, is vision screening for Elementary students. You should have received paperwork from your child for this free service. Please contact the office if you have not received anything and would like your child to participate.
3) Father-Daughter dance is this Saturday, January 23rd from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the WCS Gym. Tickets are still available in the office for $25.00 per couple.
4) Family Bowling night is Sunday, January 31st. (See attached flyer for details)
5) Parent Information Night has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 4th at 7:00 p.m. in the LPC Worship Center on the West Street Campus.
6) Incoming Kindergarten Information Night will also be Thursday, February 4th at 6:00 p.m. in room C-1 on the West St. Campus.

Please remember to get us any flyers or information that you think would benefit our school families. We would love to help get the word out about activities your church or ministry might be involved in and we enjoy being able to share family-friendly activities and events that are happening nearby. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful week and are able to stay dry.

Thank You,
Justin Smith
K-8 Administrator
