Dear Elementary Parents,
I hope that you all enjoyed the beautiful weather over the weekend and were able to get outside and spend some quality time with family. This week is a very special one for our country. Although unusual, having Veterans Day fall on a Wednesday this year makes for a perfect opportunity to stop all of our weekly activity and spend some time praying, reflecting and appreciating the sacrifice that our service men and women have made throughout our countrys great history and continue to make today. We are proud to assist families with loved ones currently serving in our armed forces. We have parents, grandparents and siblings of current students, as well as alumni of WCS deployed all over the world. We can never thank each one of you enough for all that your commitment to our freedom and safety means. As a school, we are committed to lifting these and all military families up in prayer daily. Please contact a teacher, the office, or myself and let us know of specific prayer needs for military personnel.
As we honor those who keep us safe on Wednesday, it is important to remember each of our roles in the safety of our students. We ask that you please observe the 5 mph speed limit in the campus parking lot and follow the car pool procedures. I love greeting students and parents as they arrive and certainly encourage you to walk your child to their classroom if you have time. Please, however, make sure to pull into a parking space if you are planning on doing so. The carpool lane is just for quick drop off and pick up, and there are several safety issues that arise when anyone parks there. While these are minor issues, it is important that we take the time and offer the proper consideration to keeping our students safe. The last thing any of us wants is an accident in the parking lot.
We wrapped up our first World Awareness Week last Friday in chapel. Leah Kaufman, college ministry intern at FBC Davis, shared her experiences from mission trips she has taken to Kenya. She also shared her passion for the 1000 Wells Project that is providing fresh water to the people of Kenya. Cody Cannon, Youth Director at Lifepointe church, then brought all the weeks messages together as he challenged the students that they would need to make themselves aware of the needs that existed throughout the world, Woodland and WCS. Please let us know any feedback you have received from your child regarding World Awareness Week. If you would like more information on how to get involved with the 1000 Wells Project, you can contact me and I can connect you with Leah.
WCS logo sweat shirts from Dennis Uniform are now available in the office in limited supply. See pricing below. Please make sure that your child is properly bundled up as the weather gets chilly. There are some used sweatshirts available, as well, in the office. Teri or Lisa will be happy to take care of you.

As the holidays approach, please consider purchasing gift cards through our Scrip program. The value of the cards is equal to their cost and the school gets a percentage of the sales when they are redeemed. Order forms will be going home with your child this Friday. The order forms will need to be in by the following Wednesday. Your order will be filled on Thursday and delivered to your child at the end of class on Friday. The Scrip program is an absolutely FREE way for you to support the school through the purchases you would normally make. Grocery cards are available for Nugget, Raleys and BelAir markets, as well. Remember that 25% of Scrip profits go directly to our teachers for extra classroom supplies. This can amount to hundreds of dollars each year if we take advantage of the program.
A few reminders before closing:
When offered anything in the world by God, King Solomon, instead of asking for riches, treasure, and power, asked God for wisdom. The Bible is clear that there is nothing on earth more valuable than wisdom. I would ask that you would partner with our staff in praying for the wisdom that comes from the Lord. Every situation faced and decision made throughout the day requires wisdom and the only true wisdom comes from God. Let us trust in the Lord with all our heart, and lean not on our own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5) We feel strongly that God wants to bless WCS; its families, staff and alumni. We are only going to get there, however, if each of us operates with Gods wisdom. Have a phenomenal week and may God continue to bless America and our troops!
Thank You,
Justin Smith
