Senior College Planning Calendar September • Register early for SAT I & II/ACT Remember UC’s need 2 SATs • Make a list of 6-10 colleges • Send for information and applications, checking for deadlines • Begin a file for each college • Photocopy applications and begin draft • Consider applying Early Decision or Early Action • Get off to a good start academically • 9/16 Registration deadline for Oct 22 ACT • 9/30 Registration deadline for Nov 5 SAT I and SAT II October • Plan college visits and interviews • UC Santa Barbara preview days Monday - Saturdays • 10/8,15,22,29 UC Irvine preview days • 10/8 SAT I and SAT II test day • 10/22 UC Davis and Riverside preview day • 10/22 ACT test date • 10/28 Registration for Dec 3 SAT I and SAT II (12/10 last date for fall 2006 freshman to take tests) • Work on college essays • Get recommendation form from your counselor • Turn in your recommendation form with a self-addressed stamped envelope to your teachers and counselor. Give your recommenders 2 – 3 weeks to complete recommendations November
• 11/5 Registration deadline for Dec 11 ACT (last date for fall 2005 freshman to take test) • 11/5 SAT I and SAT II test date • Early Action Early Decision applications due this month • UC applications must be postmarked between Nov.1-30 • CSU priority application deadline Nov. 30 • GET PROOF OF MAILING FOR ALL APPLICATIONS • Submit secondary school/counselor evaluation forms as soon as they arrive. (Don’t forget stamped self-addressed envelope) December • 12/3 SAT I and SAT II test date (last date for fall 2006 freshman to take test) • 12/10 ACT test date (last date for fall 2006 freshman to take test) • 12/22 Registration deadline for Jan. 28 SAT I and SAT II • Last time to take SATs/ACT for UC • Many private school applications are due this month. Get them in on time! • Complete required financial aid forms for mailing on, or as close to Jan. 1 as possible • Ask politely and early for recommendations, remember teachers like Christmas vacation too. (Don’t forget self-addressed stamped envelope.) • Get official transcripts needed before Christmas vacation because the school office is closed. January • 1/6 Registration deadline for 2/11 ACT • File FAFSA as soon after Jan. 1 as possible • Jan. 28 SAT I and SAT II test date • Submit mid-year report to college counselor. • Continue scholarship and financial aid search • PROFILE should be sent this month (the financial aid form required by some private colleges
February • 2/24 Registration deadline for 4/1 SAT I • 2/11 ACT test date • Men who are 18 must prove draft registration to receive federal financial aid. Check your local post office. • Start studying for AP exams • California residents must fill out FAFSA and GPA verification forms to apply for Cal Grant funds. • Check that colleges have all necessary financial aid information March
• 4/3 Registration deadline for 5/6 SAT I and SAT II • Some colleges respond • Send any new information colleges request immediately! • Register for CSU placement tests April • 4/8 ACT test date • 4/28 Registration deadline for 6/3 SAT I and SAT II • All colleges should respond • If you are wait-listed by a college, and plan to enroll if accepted contact the Admission office to let them know. • Remember you have until May 1 st to make your final choice on admission and financial aid May • 5/1 Postmark deadline for Statement of Intent to Register forms • 5/5 Registration deadline for 6/10 ACT • Analytical Writing Placement Examination (formerly Subject A) for UC • AP exams • Fill out dorm forms • Thanks but no thanks to colleges you won’t attend June • 6/3 SAT I and SAT II test date • 6/10 ACT test date • Do well on final exams. Colleges have taken back offers of acceptance with poor 2 nd semester grades. • Order final transcript to be sent to the college you will attend July
