Philosophy of Education
At Woodland Christian School, we are committed to fostering a Christ-centered educational environment that nurtures the intellectual, practical, spiritual, and social development of each student. Our mission is to educate and prepare students for both college and Christian life by God’s grace and for His glory. Every aspect of our academic and character development efforts aims to glorify God.
We believe in equipping students to be persons of faith, effective communicators, life-long critical thinkers, quality producers, and community contributors. Our focus on intellectual development ensures that students are not only academically prepared but also encouraged to engage with their studies from a Christian worldview. We want our students to approach learning with curiosity and discernment, understanding that all truth is God’s truth.
In addition to academics, our character-forming philosophy of education shapes students to live for the glory of God. We employ protective boundaries through ethical and practical policies, while also creating cultivating opportunities for growth. These include athletics, leadership programs, arts, community service, and other extracurricular activities.
By providing both structure and inspiration, we aim to help students develop Christ-centered character, equipping them to live with integrity and purpose. It is our hope that every student will come to know their identity in Christ, grow in wisdom, and become godly contributors to society.
Statement of Biblical Authority
We The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe (2 Timothy 3:15-17). We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the WCS Statement of Faith (1 John 1:9, Ephesians 1:7). For purposes of WCS Statement of Faith, practice, policy, and discipline, the WCS Board is the final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application. The New International Version is the officially adopted version of the Bible used at Woodland Christian School.
Statement of Faith
We believe ONLY the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21).
1. We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30).
2. We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33), His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35), His sinless life (Hebrews 4: 15, 7:26), His miracles (John 2:11), His vicarious and atoning death (1 Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9), His Resurrection (John 11:25, 1 Corinthians 15:4), His Ascension to the right hand of God (Mark 16:19), His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11).
3. We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature and that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ and that only by God's grace and through faith alone are we saved (John 3:16–19, 5:24; Romans 3:23, 5:8–9; Ephesians 2:8–10; Titus 3:5).
4. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of condemnation (John 5:28– 29).

Our History
The decision to open a private, non-sectarian Christian day school was made by First Baptist Church of Woodland in the Spring of 1974. This school would become known as Woodland Christian School. Beginning in September, 1974 with thirty nine students, this small Christian School would soon become one of the largest in Northern California. Today, hosting more than eight hundred students, Woodland Christian actively competes academically, athletically, and musically with schools all over California. From a staff of three to a present staff of over seventy, the same basic ingredients of high expectations, commitment to excellence, and a love for children and young people have never changed.
Elementary School
1974
Woodland Christian School began as a ministry of First Baptist Church (now Lifepointe Church) to educate and reach students and their families with the good news of Jesus Christ. In the first year, WCS served 60 students between kidnergarten and 6th grade.
2018
WCS Theater
An unsolicited, anonymous donor gave $2.5 million for a new theater. Our theater is now used for band concerts, plays and musicals, and many WCS and community events throughout the year.
Middle School
2018
Due to a growing enrollment, local businessman Bang Orrick provided the land to house the middle school on a separate campus for $1 per year.
Jack Hamlin Gymnasium
Yohca Dehe Witun Nation matched the anonymous donation with a $2.5 million donation for a new gymnasium. Our gymnasium includes a lifting gym and offices for our athletic director and his asistant. It is home to our Varsity Girl’s Basketball Team who were state champions in the 2024-2025 school year, and all of our other indoor sports!
1984
1999
High School
Two sisters met with then-Administrator Jack Hamlin to arrange for the gift of land that would eventually be traded for the current land on Matmor Road. In 2000, countless volunteers worked tirelessly to build the high school and provide the infrastructure for our current high school buildings at 1787 Matmor Road.
2022
Matmor Campus Complete
The preschool on our West Street Campus moved to our Matmor Campus with our K-12 buildings. This was the last part of our school to make the move, making our offical address for preschool - 12th grade: 1787 Matmor Road!
2009
Independent Christian School
A Woodland Christian family helped WCS transition from a church-run school to an independent Christian School by providing a 0% interest loan.
2022
Elementary Learning Center
The Learning Center was built on the elementary campus. This building is used as an office and space for our resource teahcer, STEM and art activities for all classes, a library, and an event center for book fairs and other community activities.
2015
Elementary to Matmor
Woodland Christian Elementary School moved to join the middle and high schools at the Matmor Campus. In 2016, six additional classrooms were added to the middle and high school due to the generosity of an anonymous donor.
2023
Greenhouse
Due to generous Foundation Dinner Donors, our greenhouse was built for our WCS ag students. Our students learn to grow and take care of plants in our greenhouse and neighboring garden. They also organize AG Day for the elementary schoolers, who get to learn about our ag students’ projects in the greenhouse.
“Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our own lives as well.” -1 Thessalonians 2:8 NIV.
Celebrating 50 years!
“ What a privilege, what an honor, and what a responsibility that every single one of us has had and still have, of not only sharing the Gospel, but sharing our own lives and investing in people. God has blessed this school — grown it—more than I could have ever imagined and I am so humbled by that.” - Jack Hamlin, Oct. 5th, 2024 at our 50th Anniversary Chapel
